Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has presented a ₦682 billion proposed budget for the 2025 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly. Dubbed the “Budget of Consolidation,” the ambitious plan reflects a 40% increase from the previous year, signalling the administration’s commitment to accelerated growth across key sectors.
The budget allocates ₦157.97 billion (23.15%) for recurrent expenditure and ₦524.27 billion (76.85%) for capital projects. Education and agriculture emerged as top priorities, with ₦95.99 billion and ₦81.84 billion allocated, representing 14% each of the budget. Other significant allocations include ₦68.48 billion for Works, Housing, and Transport; ₦58.73 billion for Rural and Social Development; ₦53.83 billion for Water Resources; ₦49.84 billion for Environment; ₦43.88 billion for Health; and ₦18.94 billion for Internal Security and Home Affairs.
While presenting the budget, Radda highlighted the successes of the 2024 fiscal year, citing improvements in basic services, revenue generation, and project execution. He expressed optimism about the state’s trajectory, stating, “We have achieved many of our goals, and my administration is on course to meet and exceed its targets. This 2025 budget is a roadmap for consolidating our gains and driving further economic growth in Katsina.”
The governor also addressed security improvements, noting that banditry has been curtailed in many areas, restoring calm across the state. Radda acknowledged the global and national economic pressures, including naira depreciation, inflation, and subsidy removal. Despite these challenges, he praised his administration’s resilience in prioritizing citizens’ welfare.
“When I presented the 2024 budget, the naira was at ₦816 to the dollar. Today, it’s ₦1,725—a 100% depreciation. Yet, we have navigated these uncertainties while remaining focused on our developmental agenda,” he explained. Radda attributed rising costs to international crises such as the Russia-Ukraine war, which disrupted wheat imports, and higher shipping expenses caused by the Yemen crisis. Despite these hurdles, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to alleviating economic hardship while driving sustainable development.
The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Daura, commended Governor Radda for the detailed budget, describing it as a forward-looking plan that balances immediate priorities with long-term goals. “This budget demonstrates a strong intention to combat crime, improve living standards, and consolidate the state’s progress. The Assembly will ensure a rigorous review and provide oversight to guarantee effective project implementation,” Daura stated.
He assured that the legislative arm remains committed to a harmonious working relationship with the executive to achieve Katsina’s development objectives. Governor Radda, in turn, urged lawmakers to expedite the budget’s passage, emphasizing its importance in consolidating the administration’s achievements and driving further economic growth.
