In a historic move to foster transparency and strengthen governance, Governor Mallam Umar Namadi on Sunday launched the Jigawa State Government Citizen Engagement Programme, tagged “Gwamnati da Jama’a” (Government and the People), in Auyo Local Government Area. The initiative marks a significant step in bridging the gap between the government and its citizens, ensuring accountability and open dialogue.
The event, held in Auyo, brought together high-ranking officials, including commissioners, heads of parastatals, federal and state legislators, and local government representatives. Each official presented detailed updates on their ministries’ and offices’ achievements, focusing on projects and initiatives impacting Auyo Local Government.
Governor Namadi emphasized the programme’s goal of keeping citizens informed and involved in governance. “We want to talk to the people, tell them what the government is doing, and listen to their concerns. This is an idea we discussed and agreed on because we believe in staying connected with the people at the grassroots,” he said.
The interactive session saw active participation from community members, including traders, transport workers, and local leaders, who voiced their needs and sought clarifications on specific projects. Many expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts while highlighting areas requiring further attention.
Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development. “From what we have seen today, APC has strong support at the grassroots. People appreciate what we are doing, and that motivates us to work even harder for them,” he stated.
The “Gwamnati da Jama’a” programme is set to roll out across all 27 local government areas in Jigawa State, with three LGAs visited monthly. The initiative aims to ensure widespread participation and consistent information flow, with the entire state expected to be covered by October 2025.
Attendees hailed the programme as a groundbreaking approach to governance, setting a new standard for citizen engagement in the state.
