Governor Malam Umar Namadi has received the final report from the investigation committee on the Majia tanker explosion.

The committee, chaired by DIG Hafiz M. Inuwa (Rtd), was tasked with investigating the causes of the fire, assessing the damage, and recommending preventive measures.

Presenting the report, the chairman attributed the tragedy to damaged roads, night driving, and overspeeding.

The situation worsened when locals scooped fuel, leading to a massive explosion that claimed 209 lives and also left dozens injured as well as affected 167 families.

Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the incident.

In a press release signed by Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, it was emphasized that the administration is dedicated to enhancing public safety and emergency response systems.

The committee’s recommendations included regular inspections for petroleum vehicles, upgrading emergency response centres, establishing burn units and trauma centres, creating a road traffic management agency, and providing support to victims’ families.

Governor Namadi commended the committee for their work and diligence in compiling the report within the timeline. He promised that his administration would swiftly implement the recommendations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“We owe it to the victims and their families to act decisively. This report addresses the root causes and offers actionable solutions, and I assure you that we will fully support its implementation,” the governor said.

He also praised the state government’s efforts during the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, including providing medical care, financial assistance, and psychological support to affected families.
