Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has carried out a major cabinet reshuffle, removing the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff, and five commissioners in a sweeping move aimed at enhancing governance and administrative efficiency.
The shake-up, announced by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, reflects a strategic political realignment designed to improve performance and deliver greater dividends of democracy to Kano’s residents.
In the reshuffle, the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, saw his office scrapped, while the SSG, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, was relieved of his duties on health grounds. Five commissioners were also dismissed, including Ibrahim Jibril Fagge (Finance), Ladidi Ibrahim Garko (Culture and Tourism), Baba Halilu Dantiye (Information and Internal Affairs), Shehu Aliyu Yammedi (Special Duties), and Abbas Sani Abbas (Rural and Community Development).
Several cabinet members retained their positions, including Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi; Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud; and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, among others.
In addition to the dismissals, several commissioners were reassigned to new ministries. Notably, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, was moved from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education. Other reassignments include Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman (Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), and Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata (Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation).
Further changes include the reassignment of Hon. Amina Abdullahi (Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to Women, Children, and Disability), Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo (Environment and Climate Change to Special Duties), and Hon. Ali Haruna Makoda (Water Resources to Education).
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of this realignment, stating that it was necessary to improve administrative output and ensure a more dynamic approach to governance.
The governor directed the dismissed Chief of Staff and the five commissioners to report to his office for potential reassignment.
Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isma’il Jibril Falgore, praised the governor’s decision, noting its potential to strengthen the administration’s capacity to address the challenges facing the state.
This reshuffle marks a decisive step in Governor Yusuf’s efforts to ensure effective governance and address the developmental needs of Kano State.
