Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi has inaugurated a high-level committee to investigate the October 14 fire incident in Majia town, Taura Local Government Area. The ceremony took place at the Council Chamber, Government House, Dutse, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to uncovering the causes of the fire and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.

The committee is chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hafizu Inuwa, joined by prominent state officials and representatives from various sectors and agencies. Members include the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Bello Abdulkadir Fanini; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa; Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Nura Ibrahim; Commissioner for Works, Engineer Gambo S. Malam; and Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Dalladi Sankara. Other members are Technical Adviser to the Governor on Health, Isah Surajo Muhammed; Special Adviser on Security Matters, Usman Muhammad Jahun; and Director General of the Due Process and Project Monitoring Bureau, Professor Kassim Muhammad.

Also serving are Taura Local Government Council Chairman, Honourable Shu’aibu Ibn Hambali; District Head of Majia, Alhaji Mahmoud Sayyadi Mahmoud; and representatives from the Majia community, Fire Service, Ministry of Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, SEMA, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, DSS, FRSC, NSCDC, Civil Society Organizations, NARTO, and NURTW. The Director of Special Services, Salisu Yau Taura, will serve as the committee’s Secretary, with Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, PRO from the SSG’s Office, as Assistant Secretary.

Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim, highlighted that the committee’s mission is to investigate the fire’s cause and propose measures to mitigate future incidents. Governor Namadi called for full public cooperation, encouraging residents to share any relevant information or evidence.

The committee is given an initial four-week period to complete its findings and submit a report. Governor Namadi extended his appreciation to the first responders—the Fire Service, Police, and SEMA—whose swift action provided initial relief during the incident.
