Dutse, Jigawa State – In a significant boost to its infrastructure development, the Jigawa State Government has commissioned the newly constructed Auyo-Hakudau-Kafardau-Tigin-Anauya-Ayama Road, a 9.5-kilometer project executed at a cost of N3.8 billion. The road, built by Alren Construction Company, was officially opened by the Honourable Minister of Defence and immediate former governor of the state, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, during a ceremony held at Government House Dutse.
Governor Mallam Umar Namadi, speaking at the event, highlighted the road’s importance to the local communities, noting that it was extended to Ayama and reinforced with hydraulic structures to address perennial flooding. “This road will stand the test of time and significantly contribute to the socioeconomic development of the area,” he said.
The Auyo-Ayama Road is part of a broader initiative to complete inherited projects, with 90% of 26 ongoing road projects already finalized and over N50.7 billion disbursed. Only two roads remain, which are expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
In a press release by the governor’s spokesman, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, it was revealed that Jigawa State has also launched an ambitious expansion plan, awarding contracts for 47 new road projects covering 977 kilometers at a cost exceeding N304 billion. These projects include 17 regional roads, 15 feeder roads, 8 township roads, and 8 rehabilitations. Progress on these projects ranges from 10% to over 60% completion, with some sites already more than halfway done.
Governor Namadi emphasized the importance of road infrastructure in driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents. “This unprecedented investment reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of our people and accelerating the development of Jigawa State,” he stated.
Special Guest of Honour Muhammad Badaru Abubakar commended the state’s efforts, urging continued collaboration between state and federal authorities to sustain the momentum of development.
With over 1,200 kilometers of roads delivered since 2023, Jigawa State continues to lead the way in infrastructure development, setting a benchmark for other states in Nigeria.
