In a landmark move to transform its agricultural sector, the Jigawa State Government has signed a strategic partnership agreement with China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE) and the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF). This collaboration is set to drive innovation, boost productivity, and create sustainable opportunities for farmers across the state.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during a high-profile ceremony at CAMCE’s headquarters in Beijing, China, with Governor Malam Umar Namadi leading the delegation from Jigawa State. The agreement outlines a comprehensive plan to enhance agricultural production, value addition, and market access, all while leveraging renewable energy to ensure sustainability.
The MoU was signed by Hon. Muttaga Namadi, Commissioner of Agriculture, Jigawa State; Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, Executive Secretary of NADF; and Mr. Sun Jianshan, General Manager for the Division at CAMCE. Speaking at the event, Governor Namadi hailed the partnership as a pivotal step toward the state’s economic diversification goals.
“This partnership is a testament to our administration’s commitment to revolutionizing agriculture in Jigawa State,” said Hon. Muttaga Namadi. “By working with CAMCE and NADF, we are setting the stage for sustainable agricultural practices, increased productivity, and enhanced economic opportunities for our farmers and communities.”
The agreement focuses on key initiatives, including improving crop yields for sesame, soybean, and hibiscus through advanced seeds, modern irrigation, and farmer training programs. It also aims to establish processing facilities for oil extraction and other value-added products, ensuring Jigawa meets international export standards.
The use of renewable energy, such as solar and biogas technology, will power irrigation systems and processing facilities, reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability. Additionally, the partnership will facilitate financing opportunities for farmers, enabling the cultivation of priority crops like rice, wheat, and hibiscus.
NADF’s Executive Secretary, Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s agricultural challenges. “This tripartite partnership signifies a shared vision for a thriving agricultural sector in Nigeria. By pooling our resources and expertise, we can achieve greater impact and ensure food security for generations to come.”
On his part, CAMCE’s Mr. Sun Jianshan expressed the company’s commitment to supporting Jigawa’s agricultural transformation. “We are honored to partner with Jigawa State and NADF on this initiative. CAMCE will leverage its global expertise and resources to help Jigawa achieve its ambitious agricultural development goals,” he said.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the Jigawa State Government reiterated its resolve to empower its agricultural sector, describing the agreement as a cornerstone of its economic blueprint.
With this partnership, Jigawa State is poised to become a leading hub for agricultural innovation, sustainability, and global market integration, setting a new benchmark for economic growth and development in Nigeria.
