Governor Malam Umar Namadi has unveiled a sweeping N698.3 billion budget for 2025, aptly named “The Budget of Innovation & Transformation for Greater Jigawa.” This ambitious plan sets the stage for significant advancements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth, aimed at uplifting the lives of Jigawa residents.
Presenting the proposal to the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Governor Namadi described the budget as a bold vision for self-reliance and development. Of the total budget, a groundbreaking N534.76 billion—representing 76%—is allocated for capital projects, emphasizing the administration’s drive to reshape the state’s future.
Over N148 billion is slated for roads and infrastructure, with a focus on completing 46 ongoing road projects. The governor also revealed plans to tackle the state’s energy challenges, earmarking N39.4 billion for a 100 MW solar power plant and a solar panel manufacturing facility. These initiatives, he said, will expand energy access and attract private sector investment.
Agriculture, a cornerstone of Jigawa’s economy, emerged as a top priority with an allocation exceeding N136 billion. Key programs include N13 billion for mechanization, N26 billion for crop rehabilitation, and N13.16 billion for agribusiness and export development. A new Ministry of Livestock Development and funding for Fadama projects will further boost agricultural productivity.
Education received a significant boost, with N120 billion set aside to enhance learning opportunities. Governor Namadi highlighted initiatives like the Partner-Assisted New Globe Education Digital Learning Project as key to empowering young minds. “By equipping our children with quality education, we’re laying the groundwork for Jigawa’s future,” he said.
The healthcare sector isn’t left behind, with over N40 billion allocated to upgrade facilities and services. Notable projects include a medical village that will house a diagnostic and cardiac center alongside an oxygen plant, aimed at addressing critical health challenges in the state.
More than N20 billion is dedicated to empowering small businesses, revitalizing markets, and developing the Maigatari Export Processing Zone, all geared toward creating jobs and opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
To tackle environmental issues, the government has earmarked N16.8 billion for climate resilience projects, including the Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative to combat flooding and erosion. Additionally, N10.72 billion has been allocated for the second phase of the Mass Housing Program to provide affordable homes for Jigawa residents.
The governor also presented the N173.5 billion budget for local government councils, which includes funding for grassroots-level projects and personnel expenses.
Governor Namadi urged lawmakers to pass the budget promptly to enable its early implementation. In response, Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, commended the governor’s leadership and pledged the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring swift approval of the budget.
With this transformative budget, Jigawa State is charting a bold path toward economic growth and a better quality of life for its people in 2025.
